Our Mission and our Team

“Our Mission and our team” by Graham Bannister, Managing Editor

Graham Bannister Managing DirectorEvery company or organisation these days has to be in possession of what is rather alarmingly styled a mission statement, as though one’s endeavours are part of some messianic plan to take over the world. In reality it is an attempt by a business to focus its own interests - rather than any altruistic endeavour in making a positive contribution to humanity.

When first conceived almost seventeen years ago, our “mission” was to engage with readers to provide them with a magazine which celebrated all that was rich in the area in which they lived. One rule was to avoid anything contentious - religious, political or otherwise - simply to promote in our readers a positive frame of mind in what often appears to be, as far as media is concerned, a sea of negativity. This doesn’t mean we contrive a magazine, but more that we select the positive - much as other media could arguably be accused of systematically. selecting the negative as part of its reader engagement. The latter can, in fact, often appear to be an easier route.

This may make us seem a bit old fashioned but, as in life, it is perhaps better to be pleasant than unpleasant, and to have good manners rather than bad. Furthermore, this old fashioned quality extends to a respect for the fundamentals of good writing, grammar and punctuation - for how are we to produce a magazine that gains respect when we abuse the rich and beautiful language upon which it draws, or at least fail to capitalise on its enormous potential?

The final part of our mission was (and is) to ensure that the people who advertise in this magazine get value for money. We therefore simultaneously offer them a true marketing service and ensure their message gets delivered to a receptive audience on the principle that our readers will support us by engaging with our advertisers in a similar way - based on trust, respect and value for money.

We could here state the extent of our skills in achieving this - from writers, through to advertising consultants, through to designers and finally our delivery people. But another good old fashioned quality is the belief that the test of competence is the result and that readers and advertisers will fundamentally, in the absence of hype, judge for themselves. They have done so since we first began and we remain grateful for their continuing support
